Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026  ·  BC PIPA and PIPEDA

Holler ("Holler", "we", "us") operates in British Columbia and is subject to the province's Personal Information Protection Act(PIPA). Because some of your information is handled by service providers outside British Columbia, Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) also applies to those transfers. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use the Holler platform.

1

Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal information:

  • Account data: Name, email address, phone number, city
  • Tasker profile data: Your bio, hourly rate, the services you offer, and the areas you cover. We do not ask for your date of birth or your home address
  • Identity confirmation (Taskers): Confirmed directly with our screening provider during your criminal record check. Holler never receives or stores your ID documents
  • Background check data (Taskers): Criminal record check results processed by our screening provider on our behalf
  • Payment data: Processed exclusively by Stripe. Holler does not store card numbers or banking details
  • Booking and usage data: Tasks booked, messages exchanged, reviews submitted
  • Check-in location (Taskers): If you allow it, your device's location at the single moment you check in to a task, and nothing before or after. It is used only to confirm attendance if a booking is disputed, and is visible to you, the Client on that booking, and Holler staff reviewing a dispute. Declining is not penalised and you can still check in.
  • Completion photos (Taskers): Any photo you attach when finishing a task, shared with the Client on that booking
  • Technical data: IP address, browser type, device info, usage logs
2

How We Use It

We use your personal information to:

  • Operate and improve the Holler marketplace
  • Process bookings, payments, and Tasker payouts
  • Verify Tasker identity and conduct background checks
  • Send booking confirmations, reminders, and support communications
  • Resolve disputes and detect fraud
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your personal information for advertising profiling or sell it to third parties.

3

Sharing & Disclosure

We share information only as necessary to operate the platform:

  • Stripe: payment processing
  • Our screening provider: background checks and identity confirmation (Tasker data only)
  • Resend: transactional email delivery
  • Supabase / AWS: secure cloud data hosting

We may disclose information when required by law, to protect our rights, or to prevent harm. We require all service providers to handle your data in accordance with applicable privacy law.

4

Security

We use industry-standard encryption, access controls, and secure hosting to protect your personal information. No system is completely secure; we encourage you to use a strong, unique password and contact us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.

If a breach happens. If personal information in our care is lost or accessed without authorization, and there is a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the applicable privacy regulator as soon as feasible. Our notice will describe what happened, what information was involved, what we are doing about it, and what you can do to protect yourself. We keep a record of all breaches, whether or not they meet the notification threshold.

5

Where Your Data Is Stored (Cross-Border Transfer)

Your personal information, including sensitive identity verification and background-check data, is stored and processed by service providers located in the United States, including Stripe, our screening provider, Resend, and Supabase/AWS. As a result, your information may be subject to United States laws and may be accessed by US authorities through lawful access requests, court orders, or other legal processes.

Holler requires all of these providers to protect your personal information under standards comparable to those required by Canadian privacy law.

6

Sensitive Information (Taskers)

For Taskers, we collect criminal record check results from our screening provider. You confirm your identity with that provider directly, so Holler never receives or stores your ID documents. The results are sensitive personal information, and we treat them accordingly:

  • They are collected with your express, separate consent during onboarding.
  • They are used solely to verify your eligibility and the safety of the marketplace.
  • They are accessible only to authorized Holler staff and our screening provider.
  • They are retained only as long as needed for that purpose.
7

Data Retention

We keep your personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by law (for example, tax and accounting records). After that, we delete or anonymize it.

By way of illustration:

  • Account data is deleted or anonymized within a reasonable period after you close your account, subject to legal or tax retention holds.
  • Background-check results are retained only as long as needed to maintain your eligibility as a Tasker.
8

Cookies

Holler uses essential cookies required for authentication and platform functionality. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can control cookie settings through your browser, though disabling essential cookies may affect platform functionality.

9

Your Rights

Under BC PIPA and PIPEDA, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions; note that withdrawing consent for essential uses may mean Holler can no longer provide the service to you
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia, or with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada

To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@hollerservices.com. We will respond within 30 days.
